UGS can deliver alarm signals to building control systems or specific pieces of equipment when electricity prices or electrical demand exceeds a predetermined threshold. Monitoring & Targeting is an analytical tool which correlates outside temperature to building energy usage. Once the temperature-usage relationship is determined for a specific building, the UGS on-line system takes over as a forecasting tool and monitors expected energy usage versus actual usage as a function of outside temperature. Anomalies between forecast and actual usage are reported in real time allowing building operators to correct control system settings before significant energy wastage occurs. The M&T tool is also applicable to industrial operations where energy usage is correlated to production (e.g. blast furnace steel production).

UGS provides monitoring and reporting services for specialized applications such as cogeneration. Custom reports are designed to help facility operators manage their energy systems. For example, UGS monitors gas input to cogen plants, as well as kWh output, engine thermal output, and ISO 5 minute prices. The economics of operating the cogen are calculated every 5 minutes and can be used to optimize the cogen output level.
