Our advanced technology solutions are real-time and web-based, allowing for timely, fact-based decision-making. The UGSProfiler energy management technology was designed as a “plug and play” system to make it user friendly and to minimize installation cost.
UGS Gateway device is the backbone of the UGSProfiler system; it controls all the communication traffic between the dataloggers, environmental sensors, and control devices and the UGS servers. UGS gateways are designed to exceed the most stringent firewall requirements. Our gateways typically communicate with our servers via the internet, and in situations where internet access is not available our gateways can communicate data through the cellular data networks.
UGS dataloggers track and store meter data in 5 minute intervals. Each channel/input is optically isolated from other channels. All dataloggers store 16 weeks of 5 minute data and have a battery backup on board.
UGS Environmental Sensors
UGS has also developed a line of specialty dataloggers to monitor, temperature, humidity, voltage signals and to provide a relay output signal. Specialty dataloggers are used in advanced applications which correlate facility energy usage to temperature and humidity.
UGS Wireless Interface
UGS has developed a wireless interface for the UGS gateway devices. These interfaces are used in situations where a hardwire network connection is not available. The wireless interface communicates meter data over cellular networks.
UGS Alert for Building Controls
The UGS Alert device provides a signal to a building control system or to a specific piece of equipment. A typical example is an electricity price signal. The UGS system monitors real time electricity prices and sends a control signal to the building system when the electricity price exceeds a pre-determined price threshold. The customer programs the building controls to adjust load during price spikes. Other control signals include peak load alarms to control monthly peaks which impact the monthly utility bill.
Typical commercial loads that can be controlled during UGS alert events include fans, chillers, and electric boilers. For example, facilities such as cold storage warehouses can turn chillers off for short periods during high price periods.
UGS Residential Load Controller & AMR
The UGS residential load controller is a web based system used for controlling equipment such as motors, residential water heaters and Air Conditioners. It has several key features which offer significant advantages over legacy systems:
- Wireless in-home communication capability which significantly reduces installation time and disruption to home owners by eliminating the necessity to run wires through walls
- 2-way communication allows confirmation that the load control has actually taken place
- Cost savings reports are generated for each load control event
- The load control system is expandable to AMR for electricity, gas and water. This feature contributes significantly to system economics
"Mini" Energy Monitoring System
The Mini is a stand-alone monitoring system which is not connected to the internet and is totally managed by the customer over a local area network. The primary application of this system is in building plants where there are a multitude of metering points which require ongoing monitoring and where real time costing is not required. The "Mini" is a real time system and monitors any meter with a pulse output as well as temperature, humidity, and 4-20ma signals.
